Join us for a special screening of Paris Is Burning, the groundbreaking 1990 documentary directed by Jennie Livingston. Hosted by the Herberger Institute Student Engagement team, this edition of our monthly Movie Night in Los Angeles will take place at the ASU California Center Grand.
A landmark in documentary filmmaking, Paris Is Burning offers an intimate look at New York City’s 1980s ballroom scene, where Black and Latinx LGBTQ+ communities found spaces of self-expression, competition, and chosen family. Through vibrant performances and deeply personal interviews, the film explores themes of race, gender, identity, and resilience while celebrating the artistry of ballroom culture.
This screening will feature special guests to help us celebrate and discuss the film’s enduring impact.
